My Favorite Places to Shop in Charleston

When designing a menu for clients I try to find the very best local ingredients I can. Not everything I need is available locally so I do have a few speciality stores I hit up. Here is my typical list I visit almost every dinner I do. Along with what I use them for.
I also use a couple big dogs for certain items that I need. Whole Foods and Trader Joes are my favorites for that.
Abundant Seafood
Fresh Fish, Royal Red Shrimp
They run an amazing community supported fishery for the general public as well. There is no fresher and better quality fish in Charleston.
Boone Hall Farms Market
Local Eggs, Dairy, Fish, Produce, Dry goods.
Its just a fun store. Not everything is local, but they do carry a lot of local items. They stock my favorite milk and eggs. They are also my "go to" for NC crab meat when in season.
Growfood Carolina
Fresh Produce, dry goods, cheese, micro greens, honey
Amazing group of people that are truly passionate about local farmers and getting their products to the best Chefs in town. Unfortunately, not open to general public. Their products can be found in many grocery stores around town and you are most likely eating them in our best restaurants here in Charleston.
H&L Supermarket
Asian Goods
I go here for all me asian products I can't get anywhere else. Also great for specialty Asian produce.
India Spice
Indian Goods
Jai Paul and Gita run this well stocked Indian goods store. They are amazing people and a joy to talk to. They carry all kinds of products you can not get anywhere here in Charleston. Being that I love to cook Indian food and have 9 years of experience doing so, I am here often.
Sea Island Jersey's
Raw Milk.
Celeste and George Albers are amazing people and their milk is second to none. Its worth a visit to the farm to see the calves and meet them. You can get the milk at Boone Hall Farms store in Mt. Pleasant as well as two Farmer's markets downtown on Saturdays. Its also available in gourmet stores around town. It is really worth seeking out.
